I Missed Drinking

It has only been 2 and a half months since I discovered that I am pregnant but I missed my glass of wine already..it is not that I am an alcoholic. Work has been so hectic the last 2 weeks and Lucas has been so active and the hormones in my body is creating wreck in me. Today, after I tucked Lucas to bed, I missed my glass of wine. It would be nice to eat my dinner in peace and sip some wine to wind down. It is going to be a while before I can start drinking again i.e. after the delivery and the breastfeeding. Meanwhile, Dominic is all happy to get the booze stock all to himself.

Instead, I have to settle for a can of Vanilla Coke - better than drinking milk, I suppose.

But honestly, I have been 'cheating' now and then. A few hours before I were to take my home pregnancy test, my dear husband gave me a very encouraging message. He was drinking his beer and he said to me, 'Here, drink some. Once you are tested positive, you can't drink. Since you do not 'know' now, better have a few sips'. We pretty sure then the test is going to be positive. On Valentine Day, we had a nice dinner complimentary from my in-laws. My dear husband poured me a quarter class of wine and said, 'Since it is Valentine, you can have a few sips.' I happily gulp the precious liquid.

Thinking back, I also had been cheating when I was breastfeeding Lucas. I remembered very well on the first day we took Lucas home from the hospital, Lucas was downed with jaundice. He was supposed to drink more milk to help purge the toxin out of his body but this boy just wanted to sleep. His jaundice was getting worse and I was not sure what to do. I was so stressed and I just drank a can of beer! Don't know what damage has been done.

Mr Opportunist

Lucas is an opportunist. Today, he insists that he wants to hold his dried raisin while he was eating his dinner. He said, 'Hold only'. I gave in. Then, while I was talking to the babysitter, he quietly slip a dried raisin into his mouth. I tried to explain that when he put a dried raisin into his mouth, it is called 'eating' and not 'hold only'. He is cheating if he does that. He cheekily gave me his triumphant smile. He did that 4-5 times during the meal. When I told Dominic about this, Dominic was like 'he should be punished. we should not encourage this behaviour'. I was telling myself, OK, you can come back and punish your cheeky son.

Scolding

Lucas was quite naughty today and I have my hormone imbalance. When I tried to put him to nap in the afternoon, he repeated every 5-10 mins saying 'Buy green gummy bear, red gummy bear, yellow candy and blue candy'. He repeated that for about 45 mins. For the whole 45 mins, I keep telling him, 'Go to sleep, stop talking. We will talk about the bear and candy after you wake up'. Obviously, that falls into deaf ears. After 45 mins, my patience run out, and I left him in the room crying. He eventually felt asleep.
Then, during bath time, I tried to get him to brush his teeth. He is not keen in brushing his teeth. He simply sucks his apple flavour toothpaste, and throw the toothbrush into his bathtub. I was again have my hormone imbalance. I raised my voice and scolded him.
When I put him to bed just now, he said to me, 'Mummy talk very loud in Lucas bathroom. Mummy talk very fast in Lucas bathroom'. I gathered he must be talking about my scolding in the teeth cleaning drama. I took the opportunity to 'threaten' him. I asked him, 'Do you want Mummy to talk loud and fast again?'. He said 'No'. Then I said, 'Then, go to sleep'. When I walked out of the room leaving him to fall asleep, he did not make any fuss.
Now, I am wondering if this is the right way to discipline a child!

Want Baby Sister, Don't Want Baby Brother

The good news is if everything goes well, I should be expecting my second kid in July. I have to do my amnio test on Monday and hope the results turn out to be well.
When I first discovered I am pregnant, we ask Lucas if he wants a sister or brother. We don't think and still don't think he knows what is sister and brother, or boy and girl. The first time, he said 'brother'. Then it was forgotten for a while. In the last few days, he will out of the blue say 'Mummy, want baby sister, don't want baby brother'. When I asked him if he knows what is sister and brother, he kept quiet. But funny thing is he will said the same sentence now and then.

Lucas is 28 months old

I have to be reminded by my mother-in-law that Lucas is turning 28 months! How forgetful can I get. He has been growing so fast and trying to keep up with his milestones require writing down as soon as it happens. Let's see what I can remembered now:
Behaviour/Character
1. He is generally very patient and very 'cool'. He does not scream even when a friend's dog is chasing him. He just ran to me and complained about the dog.
2. He is very determined. If he decides that he wants to eat a candy, he will ask until we gave in.
3. He remembers. If we promise him something, he will remind us.
4. He expresses himself well, whether when he is excited or frustrated.
5. He is an introvert. When we are out with other kids, he does not mix around with the others. He sticks to us and observe the other kids play. If he wants to go anywhere, he will pull either one of us to go with him.
6. He is still undecided if he wants to be left handed or right handed. He uses both hands when he feed himself or when holding pencils.

Diet
1. He is quite picky about food. He dislikes vegetables. But generally he has sweet tooth, like Dominic.
2. He likes food with crunchy/firm textures like cucumber and apple.
3. He eats breakfast, lunch and dinner and 3 times of 7 Oz milk a day. However, this eating habit needs improvement. He can sit there for an hour to eat his meal. He just keep the food in his mouth, chew now and then and it takes a lot of patience to get him to finish his meal.

In Singapore for a week...part 2

We have finally arrived home after a week in Singapore. There were a few things which Lucas enjoyed such as :
- taking a cab - each time I say, let's take a cab to see Daddy, he will excitedly wear his shoes and ready to go.
- go shopping - his favourites are asking to buy gummy bears, donuts, candy, red and green socks.
- use the access card to use the lift and open the room door. When the indicator light turns green, he will tell himself 'so clever'.
- likes to be carried and not walk on his own. When we asked him what's wrong with his leg, he will reply 'Cannot walk'.

However, it is a juggle for me to take care of him and work at the same time. I have to engage the hotel babysitter and my in-laws came for 2 days to entertain him.

While we were there, we also interviewed a potential maid, This agency recommended by my friend happened to have a maid available immediately. It was the first time we interviewed a maid and have no clue what to ask or to look for. Of course, anything we ask, she will reply she knows or she can do it. But, we don't have a good feeling about her. She was very hesitant when we asked if we can call her current employer to ask for reference. This is not a good sign.

In Singapore for a week

We have decided to try out to live in Singapore..for a week. So, here we are on our first day. We left the house early, trying to beat the traffic at the Second Link. We did quite alright..left the house at 9am and arrived at the hotel at 2pm, with a 50 mins stop at rest area. Lucas ate so slow, and decided to poo...just can't rush him.

We did not venture outside the hotel today. Felt a bit tired and Dominic is too busy watching the Australia Open. Poor Roger broke down...and I thought if I am having a second baby boy, I might name him Rafael. Lucas enjoyed this hotel thus far. He spent the first half hour exploring the hotel room, curious about everything new. He also gave a big (I mean big) vomit when I tried to put him to bed. All his dinner (cheese) and milk came gushing out and I have to bath him twice. We have to get the housekeeping to change the bedsheet and the comforter! Lucas commented, 'This home is nice, got cookies! Come back tomorrow.' That's his experience on the first day.

Living anywhere is not a problem as long as Lucas is not in primary school. The only difficulty is getting a babysitter to take care of him while we both are working.
