Little Screamer

New year, and hence a birth of a bad habit. we have a little screamer at home. Sometimes, we call him little terror, and sometimes Lucas, the destroyer. He has definitely grown to be smarter. He knows how to scream without a drop of tear. The saga is pretty routine everyday. When we put him to sleep, he screams the minute we walk out of the room. When he gets up, he screams again the minute he did not see us. He just dislike going to sleep. It is like he will missed all the action if he goes to sleep. It has been very exhausting for us. We tried all methods thinkable - explained to him, threaten him, ignored him and nothing works. Our neighbour downstairs made a comment that he might have psychology problem and asked us to find out the root cause!! Well, it is hard to explain to someone who had no kid. Raising a child is not a science.
My new year wish is to train him to go to bed on his own - go to sleep happily and wakes up happily.

He has also grown to understand a lot, from observation. He knows how to take a piece of cloth and wipes the floor, table and door. He wants to water the plants too. Understand quite a few things we said to him:

Lucas: (singing and jumping on our bed)
Me: Lucas, go to sleep now or I will put you on your bed.
Lucas: (quickly lay down and pretend to be sleeping. A few minutes later, singing and jumping on the bed again)

Lucas: (going to throw his bottle from his high chair)
Me: Lucas ! Don't throw.
Lucas: (Threw the bottle and then looked at me) 'No more'. (Gently slap his own hand. He knew I am going to ask him to slap himself)

Lucas: (being naughty)
Me: Lucas, Mommy is not carrying you. Go play with your toys.
Lucas: (walk around the apartment and said) Daddy, no more (and gesture with his hands.)

When friends and relatives asked when are we planning our second kid, our reply is always 'We are already exhausted with one. Don't know how we can handle two'.

I need a bigger place

I was having a conference call with my boss on Friday from home. It was from 5pm to 6.30pm, and that happens to be Lucas's dinner time. And my god...he was screaming for 1 hour! My boss heard that and wanted to quickly end the call so that I can attend to him. This boy has learned to be very assertive. If he wanted something, we give make a lot of noise to make sure he gets it. The only way out is to distract him. So, only Friday,
1) he wanted to eat more papaya but the nanny did not want to give him. She thinks he has enough fruit. So, he decided to scream.
2) while the nanny was cooling his food, he screams again. He wanted it NOW.
3) While eating his dinner, he wanted to feed himself using his hand and the nanny refused. There goes another good minutes of screaming.

I was quite furious - don't know with Lucas or with the nanny (told her to keep him quiet before the conference call started) or both. And then I told myself, I need a bigger house. We have outgrown our two bedroom apartment. Next year resolution - move to a bigger house??!!
